1858 - Birth of Christian Eijkman, a Dutch physician, who won the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his discovery of Vitamin B in 1929.

1863 - French protectorate is established over Cambodia.

1997 - An International Meeting called to help rescue Thailand's falling economy, offers USD$16 Billion in Loans.
